Starting from the research questionnaire for GenS, sharing experiences of studying and researching women at the origins of sociology, the project gives a new opportunity to continue sharing of research through the session “The Women Founders and the Making of Social Theory” at the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology, which will take place in Gwangju, Republic of Korea, from 4 to 10 July 2027.
The session focuses on the contributions of women founders to the development of sociological thought and social theory, with particular attention to their concepts, methods, intellectual networks, and ways of understanding social life. More broadly, it aims to reflect on how recovering these contributions can challenge established narratives of the sociological canon and contribute to rethinking the history and foundations of the discipline.
You can find the full description of the session, as well as the space to submit your abstract, here:

The Call for Abstracts is open from 3 August to 14 October 2026. Abstracts must be submitted through the ISA Conference System and linked to the selected session. They should not exceed 300 words and must be submitted in a language accepted for the session. Abstracts can be edited in the Conference System until the submission deadline; after 14 October, no further changes can be made.
