FUNDING for Strengthening Movements for Gender Equality
Application deadline: 1st stage application phase closes 7 August 2026 at 23:59 pm
A major new funding opportunity has opened for European civil society. The Alliance for Gender Equality in Europe has announced a €2.7 million initiative specifically designed to empower grassroots movements and foster intersectional solidarity across Europe over the next three years.
This call for proposals targets small and medium-sized non-profit organisations, social enterprises, and regional funds that employ gender-transformative approaches.
- Synergy First: Funding is restricted to coalitions formed by a minimum of three partners to encourage cross-border and local cooperation
- Long-Term Backing: Selected coalitions will receive between €75,000 and €150,000 annually from January 2027 to December 2029
- Geographic Reach: Open to registered groups operating within the European Union, the UK, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia
- Inclusive Decision-Making: Evaluation will follow a new participatory model, giving equal voting weight to a committee of donors and non-funders.
The initiative focuses heavily on community-led groups working alongside marginalised women, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals.
All applications must be compiled and submitted in English.
Grant amount: Total funding for this call is €2 700 000. Between €225,000 and €450,000 per grant over 3 years (or €75,000 and €150,000/year per grant). Funding is awarded as project support, which can include salary and overhead costs; overhead costs are capped at 20%. The Alliance expects to fund 6 to 12 coalitions.
